Among the green fields of Haifa and Yizreel, an inspiring story unfolds\u2014a story of a young Ukrainian who found a new home through his love for rugby. Yurii Oliinyk, a new Oleh from Ukraine, arrived in Israel as part of the Na\u2019ale Program, carrying a big dream\u2014to become an integral part of Israeli rugby and his\u00a0new\u00a0homeland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

First Steps on the Field<\/h3>\n\n

A skilled rugby player from his days in Ukraine, Yurii wasted no time upon arriving in Israel and immediately sought out a club where he could continue playing. He soon found his place with Yizreel Rugby Club, where his strong physique and outstanding athletic ability quickly made him a key player in the youth squad. Today, he already shines in Yizreel\u2019s senior team, showcasing remarkable versatility by excelling in positions 1 through 8.<\/p>\n\n

A Proud Moment in the National Team<\/h3>\n\n

Although he has only lived in Israel for a short time, international rugby regulations allowed Yurii to represent the country at the youth level. Unlike the senior national team, where players must reside in Israel for at least five years to be eligible, youth teams allow participation based on current residency. This gave Yurii the opportunity to fulfill a dream and don the blue-and-white jersey\u2014now a symbol of home and belonging for him.<\/p>\n\n

An Emotional Reunion in Poland<\/h3>\n\n

But the most moving moment in Yurii\u2019s young career happened not on Israeli soil but in Poland. During a match with the Israeli national team, he was reunited with his mother\u2014a refugee from Ukraine\u2014in a meeting that touched the hearts of everyone present. On a rugby field in Poland, the oval ball helped reconnect a family separated by war.<\/p>\n\n

“I deeply appreciate the opportunity I was given through the Na\u2019ale Program, which allowed me to explore life in Israel with peace of mind,” says Yurii. He highly recommends the program to any young Jewish person considering making Aliyah under supportive and optimal conditions. \n \nDuring his studies at Ramat Hadassah Youth Village, Yurii gained valuable tools to help him integrate into Israeli society. “The village gave me the opportunity to grow and succeed,” he shares. The personalized program, which combines academics, social development, and life skills, not only helped him adapt quickly but also inspired him to dream big\u2014and even earn a place on Israel\u2019s U18 national rugby team.<\/p>\n\n

Now, Yurii is facing another major milestone\u2014his upcoming enlistment in the IDF as an active athlete. He continues training with Yizreel while also giving back to the community, coaching Maccabi Haifa\u2019s U16 team and leading tag rugby programs in Haifa, where he now resides.<\/p>\n\n
